1 Jun 2017 - UNDP Ghana partnered with the UN Information Centre, FAO and other stakeholders to organize an event at the Tema Canoe Fishing Harbour to sensitize the media and a fishing community on the upcoming UN Ocean Conference (New York, 5-9 June 2017).
The resource persons emphasized why this global conference is highly relevant for Ghana, due to its challenges with overfishing and illegal fishing, sea pollution and waste management. Some volunteers then participated in a clean-up exercise to demonstrate the importance of keeping Ghana’s shores clean.
While focusing on SDG 14 (life below water), the Ocean Conference relates to other SDGs, e.g. SDG 2 (fish is an important source of nutrition), SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), SDG 8 (decent work for fishermen, tourism industry etc.). H.E. the President of the Republic of Ghana will attend the Conference. For more info: https://oceanconference.un.org/
