Ocean Action Hub

FRIDAY, 9 JUNE 2017

3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

CONFERENCE ROOM B, UNHQ

SIDE EVENT TO THE OCEAN CONFERENCE

Co-hosted by the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP), UNDP and UNEP

This side event advocates a polycentric governance approach that utilizes nested and coordinated sets of local actions linked to the implementation of coherent regional frameworks. The side event discusses the need to incorporate local actions into national and regional management frameworks, and develop and implement local actions in alignment with regional and national priorities and considerations. Such vertical links between regional processes and local actions not only enhance the effectiveness of local actions in addressing international waters issues but also improve the effectiveness of regional frameworks. GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP) has served as a delivery mechanism and collaborated with UNDP and UNEP in implementing community initiatives under regional frameworks of larger GEF interventions. An inter-agency panel is formed to consider and discuss the following questions:

  • Challenges and opportunities of localizing SDG14, and promote vertical integration of ocean governance
