  • The UN Secretary-General’s report titled, ‘Oceans and the Law of the Sea,’ aims to facilitate discussions on ocean science and the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
  • Although the report observes that knowledge of the ocean has been “enhanced considerably in the past 50 years,” it cautions that there are “considerable gaps and disparities in knowledge”.
  • The report asserts that ocean science plays an “important and cross-cutting role in the achievement of the 2030 Agenda”.
